Waters Wants AI Legislative Change
Appearing today at HFSC’s AI Task Force hearing, full committee Chairwoman Waters (D-CA) sharply criticized agencies for their lack of guidance on AI, highlighting the need to legislate regulatory action, a step we predicted following regulators’ joint RFI on AI/ML earlier this year (see FSM Report AI). Although Chairman Foster (D-IL) recognized AI’s potential equitable benefits, he remained concerned about embedded, unintended biases, a concern echoed by his Democratic colleagues. Meanwhile, Republicans worried about burdensome regulations, focusing on the benefits of AI and Regtech.
