EVEN IF IT’S NOT EASY, THE U.S. IS GOING GREEN
Now several weeks into the Biden Administration, work is well underway across the entire Federal government to revise policy in ways that acknowledge climate change and mitigate negative impacts.  Financial-services policy is no exception, with changes already slated or in effect across the executive branch.  This is perhaps best exemplified by last week’s first-ever meeting of a White House National Climate Task Force, led by former EPA head Gina McCarthy in her new role as the first-ever National Climate Advisor.  None of the financial agencies has taken explicit green actions, but they all surely will, building not only on the CFTC’s landmark report last year (see Client Report GREEN4), but also due to a kick sure to come when the House Financial Services Committee starts it work on green finance later this month.
