Pandemics and Politics
Over the next two weeks, Congress will turn its attention from the pandemic to itself, convening – if often virtually – in the political conventions that officially anoint each party’s presidential candidate and set the platforms on which down-ballot candidates will also campaign. In the course of these conventions, the pandemic will become still more of a political gyre. Even so, economic issues will also be front and center, bringing financial policy more to the fore than usual at this point in the political calendar. Throughout the conventions, we’ll be listening to speeches and reading platforms, giving you updates and analyses as strategic issues are debated and decided.
