Using its “FDIC Act” designation to emphasize its point, senior Senate Republicans have introduced legislation to withdraw FDIC insurance from any large depository institution refusing to do business with a federal contractor on grounds other than creditworthiness.  The legislation is unlikely to advance, but it speaks to growing pressure to bar banks from making environmental, social, or governance (ESG)-based decisions about with whom they would do business.
