Foaming Over FRMs
Advocates of a federal guarantee for residential mortgages mostly back this up by arguing that 30-year fixed-rate mortgages can’t be made without a helping hand. House FinServ Chairman Hensarling apparently doesn’t disagree, but he also doesn’t think keeping lots of 30-year FRMs around is worth the risk of a federal backstop.
