When Treasury tomorrow releases its request for input (RFI) on what in heaven’s name to do with the GSEs, we expect the public response to be largely a rhetorical one designed somehow to force the White House’s hand in the recap-and-release battle. This won’t work – the White House is impregnable in defense of its current course – but it might make the very long shot of legislative intervention just a tiny bit shorter.
