The CFPB has set forth its interpretation of how servicers are to implement the MI cancellation laws—making clear that it take priority over GSE servicing guidelines and, thus, over FHFA.  The Bureau’s action tells servicers that they cannot protect investors at the expense of borrowers in house-price depreciation situations and that seasoning requirements cannot impede borrower-requested cancellations.
