Fannie’s 2Q earnings include a less than pro forma warning about earnings volatility, and a good thing too. Like Freddie, its earnings show considerable volatility in contrast to the first quarter, volatility in part spurred by growing disparity between the way each of the GSEs treats mortgage credit risk.
