In a new research paper, Fed economists have determined that the GSE g-fee increases to date have done very little to deter homebuyers from getting a fixed-rate, conforming mortgage. The paper also finds that, for fixed-rate borrowers “bunched up” at the GSE loan limit, most still get a conforming fixed-rate mortgage using either additional cash sources or a second mortgage and few choose to buy a cheaper house.
