The likely consensus of global regulators on Basel IV will be a tougher approach to risk-based capital requirements for residential mortgages.  Even if it isn’t, though, the U.S. will move quickly to implement the approach finalized last week by the Basel Committee.  The change will be so significant and costly that the GOP Congress could well combine with the Trump Administration to beat it back, but a tough fight is likely in the context of the now-raging one on the future of the GSEs.
